Daily Updates

The day to day Experience of my internship!

3/2/13

Today was my first day interning at handle bars where I learned and did a lot of knew things about the engineering aspects of motorcycles and their engines. The day started of slow with the interdiction and small talk of getting to know each other and our boundaries. After that my mentor put me right to work on 2 Wildcats and replacing 2 tires and tubes witch are way harder then a mountain bike. I used knew tools and machinery I have never herd before like a impact wrench and a torque wrench. After my lunch break I sat down and researched different parts of the engine in hopes to get a better understanding of the different components in the engine and when the day ended my mentor gave me his book that he got from college that has all of the basic parts and understanding of the dirt bikes in it to study of off this weekend.

3/5/13

Today is what can be classify as a Monday for there was not much I was able to do today.  I spent most of my day cleaning  every ATV on the lot. I also moved several trailers tires bike snowmobiles . What I learned today is that being an intern isn't always joking around and having fun.

3/6/13

Today ranged in small tasks and small lessons. I did stuff from putting dangerous chemicals in a battery, to putting together more cats, washing toys that customer just bought, and helping put together someones suspension. Today I learned the differences between a dry and wheat clutch, I also learned how even a small crash can cost you hundreds of dollars if you don't take it in to fix, because every piece of a vehicle works against each other and one piece can affect the rest of the machines performance.

3/7/13

Today was a transitional day because this was my mentors last day because he is going into the army. Me and Mike put together  a 500 Husaberg four stroke. I also researched and looked through service manual of a 450x so that i would be able to take apart and put together the engine of my dirt bike when I find the survice manual.

3/8/13

Today was a slow and weird day for me because of my mentor leaving so i spent most of my day researching looking in manuals and talking to Brian about my project. At first I wanted to do a video that was time lapsing but then i learned I needed an external part that I couldn't afford, so I am going to make a video and speed it up. I also did further research on my owners manual and found out that it would cost me 58.95. But hopefully after some more research I will be able to find an electronic copy and print it out for me to use. This next week I will be taking apart and putting together my dirt bike at handle bars getting help along the way.

3/9/13

Today I was trusted for the first time in the shop to do mechanical work on my own. This was very exciting for me because I've never taken apart a piece of an engine that's not working and fix it. I took apart 2 mopeds carburetor  cleaned them up put them back together and got one of them to run. I wasn't able to get the other one because the day had ended.

3/12/13

Today was great hands on learning experience because I did many interesting things that helped me learn and understand the mechanics of an engine. I finished putting together the other moped but it didn't run everyone tried blaming but after kind of starting it i showed them it wasn't me because the engine wasn't running right. We then diagnosed that it was something wrong with the clutch but never got around to fixing it. after that I shadowed Rich why he took apart a CRF450R 2005 asking a lot of question and learning a lot of knew things. At the end of the day a shipment of Wildcats came in so we had to charge the batteries install them then move them which takes along time when you have 8 of them.

3/14/13

Today I spent all day putting my bike back together. After dealing with the frustration of fighting my gas tank properly I finely got it back together and uploaded the video to my computer. I didn't get a chance to start my bike because time ran out and  I didn't have any 32-1 gas mixture I could use. But I hope that it will start nice tomorrow.

3/13/13

Today I spent all day taking apart my dirt bike for my project the only things I left on it was the suspension to hold the wheels so I could move it and the engine because I didn't have a service manual for it so if I took that apart i wouldn't be able to put it back together.

3/16/13

Today there wasn't much I could do so I spent the day putting things together and cleaning toys that were just sold.

3/15/13

Today I started my bike for the first time. it started but it was reeving at supper high rpm's so after much tinkering with the bike we found out that the gas can was pinching the fuel cable keeping the valve in the Carburetor open. But now my bike is good and running better then ever.

3/19/13

Today I did work that didn't have to do with engineering I took down all of the Fly winter wear matched it to bags with the same pin number then marched it off.

3/21/13

Today i mad the put together about 8 ramps and finished my final touches on my project. Luckily I finished my project  luckily I finished it after what happened.

3/20/13

Today my project freaked out on me and deleted hath of my project and worked through my internship catching up.
